The year is 1867... Michaela Quinn, a young talented doctor, leaves her comfortable home in Boston to become the doctor of a small western town in Colorado. The townsfolk don't like her at first, but through courage, compassion, and talent she wins their trust. And hearts...
In addition to being the town's only doctor, she has to care for three children - Matthew, Colleen and Brian - whom were left in her care by their dying mother, Charlotte Cooper. The show traces their lives, struggles, and her relationship with the fascinating Sully. A strong emphasis is also put on the lives of the town's people, and their families, and on the lives of the Cheyenne Indians living near by - and then later in the reservation.
